Welcome to the CALPILOTS Web Site
Every year more of our country’s general aviation airports are closed due to encroachment. California’s general aviation airports are no exception. While the national organizations such as AOPA, EAA and NBAA do an excellent job, new pilot starts are down, the current pilot population is diminishing, and general aviation airport land use incompatibility issues are growing. These facts point to the obvious necessity for every pilot to do more if we are to save our airports. We must start to think strategically. Remember, just because your local airport isn’t currently under attack, it does not mean it won’t be in the near future. More

FAA Reauthorization Legislation (HR 2881)Stalls
Aviation Articles Partisan politics are being blamed for a failure to close off debate in the Senate today on FAA reauthorization legislation (HR 2881) Senators voted 49-42 in favor of the motion to invoke cloture, but a three-fifths majority is required, which means the long-awaited legislation remains stalled forcing the FAA to continue operating on a continuing resolution that will expire on June 30, 2008.

Airport marketing study takes off
By Kelley Atherton
The Crescent City (CA) Daily Triplicate

A new marketing study could lead to improved service at Del Norte County's airport. The Border Coast Regional Airport Authority has approved a study to find out why people like using the airport or why they choose to fly into and out of other cities. The study will cost about $10,000. This will help the airport board determine what services need to be changed or added and how to market the airport.

Injunction Prevents Watsonville From Moving Forward with Some Building Plans
Aviation Articles Donna Jones - Sentinel Staff Writer
04/29/2008

WATSONVILLE -- Santa Cruz Superior Court Judge Paul Burdick on Monday dashed the hopes of city officials who were looking for something less than a total rejection of their long-range development plan. Burdick not only signed the final order implementing his earlier ruling that invalidated the 2030 general plan and its accompanying environmental review, he reinforced it with an injunction against moving forward with any project that is based on the planning document.

City officials, citing safety concerns, say they will begin implementing the ban today in defiance of the FAA.
By Dan Weikel
The Los Angeles (CA) Times

The Federal Aviation Administration took legal action Wednesday to overturn a ban on the fastest jets that fly out of Santa Monica Airport, including aircraft popular among business executives.
