Welcome to the CALPILOTS Web Site
The California Pilots Association is a non-profit public benefit California Corporation formed in 1949. The mission of our statewide volunteer organization is to promote and preserve the state’s general aviation airports. We have long recognized that the state’s general aviation airports are more than irreplaceable transportation infrastructure assets. They also serve as disaster recovery centers - most recently demonstrated during the annual wild fires across the state, and in the past during the major earthquakes. Airports are also beneficial as regional economic engines, just as the highway system serving the community is. Past studies have confirmed the financial benefits of general aviation airports to their communities. You can help to get the message out by joining us. After all, if you not you, who will protect your airport?

California firefighting commander: 'Great job' by Airmen
Aviation Articles by Tech. Sgt. Stephen Wilkins
North Carolina National Guard Public Affairs

7/18/2008 - SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AFPN) -- People in California noticed the job Airmen at McClellan Airfield performed in fighting California's wildfires and could not stop telling the commander of U.S. Northern Command during his July 17 visit to Sacramento. "State leaders are stumbling over each other trying to thank you guys!" said Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr., the NORTHCOM commander, referring to the Airmen's effort to contain wildfires borne of lightning strikes throughout California at the end of June.

About 140 members of the U.S. Air Force and Army National Guard have set up a tent city at the Salinas Municipal Airport this week for disaster-response training. Watsonville Pilots Association Back in Court - They Need Our Help!
California Pilots 2 JULY 2008
STATE-WIDE SUPPORT NEEDED FOR AIRPORT PROTECTION

The Watsonville Pilots Association (WPA), the Friends of Buena Vista (FOBV), and the local Sierra Club were successful in litigation against the City of Watsonville, CA. The Superior Court ruled that the City is in violation of State Aeronautics Law and certain California Environmental Qualities Act (CEQA) provisions. Since the City’s general plan update was predicated on a council resolution inconsistent with airport land use planning precepts, the court ruled that the general plan and its made-to-fit Environmental Impact Report (EIR) are to be rescinded.

Send Congress a Message About Oil Speculation!
California Pilots AOPA, EAA and CALPILOTS SUPPORT MOVE TO LOWER GAS PRICES
With avgas prices hovering between $5 and $7 a gallon and automobile gasoline prices double that of a year ago, nearly three-quarters of AOPA members have scaled back their flight time. Looking for any way to assist members in what is becoming an aviation fuel crisis, AOPA joined a new, rapidly growing coalition late this week that is led by the transportation industry to do just that: Stop Oil Speculation Now (S.O.S. Now). "It's obvious that something needs to be done to lower the cost of fuel," said AOPA President Phil Boyer. "We've joined this effort that is quickly gaining momentum, and we hope that it ultimately creates a national energy policy that Congress can adopt.
